We want to bring a thousand people by train to Warsaw to join the march. Traveling by train is climate friendly and comfortable. There will be plenty of food, drinks, music, interesting people and late late night discussions, the perfect mix for an unforgettable weekend!
We will leave Brussels Friday afternoon 15th of November to join the March on Saturday 16th. Sunday you'll have some free time in Warsaw and we'll leave at noon to be back in Brussels on Monday 18th at 6.30 am the latest. Yes, very short and very exhausting, but we want to give the opportunity to as many people as possible to join, without having to sacrifice their holidays. Also, the purpose is not to go listen to the international negotiations for weeks and try to influence the wording of a particular phrase. The purpose is to go 'en masse' to show we won't accept any more fake solutions. It is time for them to listen to us, and we demand climate and social justice!
It will be possible to pick-up passengers in Aachen, Cologne, Berlin (Lichtenberg) and Poznán. If your organisation would like to mobilize from Germany or Poland please let us know! Individuals can also hop on in these stations, please mention this as a comment in the registration form. The ticket price will remain the same (administrative constraints..)
A coach is being organized from London to Brussels by the Campaign against Climate Change, for people from the UK to join.
We have organized a train from Brussels to Copenhagen in 2009 to join the People First, Planet First manifestation during COP15 so we already have some experience. We mobilized close to 1000 people, raising climate and social justice to the top of the agenda of Belgian policy makers.
1. Join
We can rent a special train from the Belgian railway organisation to go to Warsaw, but we have to pay for it. The price for the full trip is relatively stable regardless of the number of wagons. The highest cost is the locomotive, staff, using the rails etc. We will pay approximately 75.000 euro, with little difference if we have 3 or 10 wagons. So the more people joining, the cheaper the ticket. Prices for a round trip Brussels - Warsaw would be:
We have reached the maximum numbers of participants and registrations are closed.
2. Support
We are looking for people to support the initiative financially. If you cannot join the train you can still contribute (click here)! Your donations will be used (1) first to help people that would like to join the train but do not have enough money and (2) afterward to lower the ticket price for all participants. Imagine we'd reach 75.000 ... the train ride would be free!
The ticket price will only include a round trip Brussels - Warsaw. The railway organisation will offer half-price tickets from any station in Belgium to Brussels for those joining the train. Like in 2009 we will offer warm vegan meals on the train, to be ordered in advance and payed separately (your receive more information upon registration). Our partners in Warsaw have arranged accommodation in schools, so bring your sleeping bag and mattress. There are also a few beds reserved in people's homes (±50-100). Let us know if you'd like one.
We'll also arrange animation, live radio, Oxfam-shop, beer and so on! You can register as an individual or as an organisation. Like in 2009, it will be possible for organisations to book a (half)-full wagon and hang up their posters/banners to make it cosy.
We are looking forward to welcoming you on the train, don't miss it!
